Artist and activist Lily Yeh will give a lecture on “The Art of Nonviolence: Community Healing and Transformation” at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 40 Fifth St., Petaluma. It’s free and sponsored by The Metta Center.

Yeh’s time is spent teaching residents and artists in devastated communities how to use arts to heal and empower themselves and to bring about social change. She has traveled to Haiti, China, Rwanda, Ecuador, Ghana, Kenya, Syria and Italy. This will be her only Bay Area visit this year.

Her book “Awakening Creativity: Dandelion School Blossoms” details her work in a school outside of Beijing. It will be available for purchase at the event. More information is available at 774-6299,
