Walk off that extra holiday poundage, laugh till it hurts,  get down with some funky old soul music, even stand up while paddling down the river.  Add these to your Christmas week “to do” list  beyond TV marathons and relatives.

Dec. 26 – Give by attending the “Second Annual Day After Christmas Soul Funk Bash & Winter Coat Drive.” It’s an all-ages, free-admission, charity live music event. The band, Sunday Gravy, will perform its hi-caliber brand of funk, soul and jazz. It’s a free, all-ages event, also featuring United Africa Club, with drummers Okili and Olembe Nguebari, and host Smoov-E. Bring a warm coat or other winter gear to donate. Dec.26-Jan. 6 – Need some distraction? Let the kids burn off some Christmas cookie energy at Redwood Empire Gymnastics, 434 Payran. It offers two sessions of Winter Camp, Dec. 26-29 and Jan. 2-6. Dec. 28 – Walk off that holiday stuffing. Wednesday (and every Wednesday at 6:10 p.m.) you can join the Sonoma County Outdoors group as members walk a brisk 4-5 miles. They start at Aqus Cafe. Dec. 29 – Laugh your way through the holiday debacle/season with Slip-Goose Monkey, an irreverent, live ad-lib comedy troupe. Members will be performing7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Aqus Café Foundry Wharf. You, the audience-member, get to participate in an improv show, calling out suggestions in response to the performers’ requests. There is no cover charge. Dec. 30 – Here’s something that should be on your “bucket” list. Mark Dec. 3o on your calendar for paddle boarding and margaritas, not necessarily in that order. The Sheraton Marina’s Tolay Lounge (a well designed bar with a great marina view, for those who haven’t been) will stage the free tacos and free admission event that kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Friday and runs till 7:30 p.m. If you haven’t already been bitten by the standing paddleboard bug, not to worry. You can rent board and paddle for a mere 20 bucks. Just bring some cash for the bar after you’ve gotten your feet wet.

Dec. 30 -Petaluma Lacrosse – Looking for a new sport to spark some family interest? How about lacrosse? Friday, December 30. Show up at Luchessi, 250 Maria Dr., and check it out. It’s free and they’ll supply any equipment you or your young athlete may need. It runs from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and once it gets dark you’ll be playing and/or learning under the lights.
